Biscayne Bay on the Florida Atlantic Coast is about 2/3 protected by the Nat Park System due to fishing lobbiest have kept open to commercial fishing. The marine life around the coral reef is being devested and thus the Eco system is being destroyed. This is just a small example of the power and control of lobbiest and the onslaught of our Nat treasures...

Moab in October with a full moon...

The few days we spent camping in Moab were the best time of year and the bonus of a full moon.  We traveled the 2 National Parks, Canyonlands and Arches and hiked and saw nature at it's best.  Arches is the most spectacular and Canyonlands the most vast and scenic.  The weather was pristine and the visitors were few and far between.  All in all, we plan on doing it this time next year.  There is way too much beauty and serenity to take in on one journey.  Thank You Moab...

A Journey For a Lifetime...

Kiefer and I spent the better part of a week on the Southern California Beaches.  The contrast to our mountain world is the impetus for a perpetual smile in each of our hearts.  Protecting these icons of America are another treasure of our experience to be experienced.

Park'nwithjackandkiefer: Hiking to the top of the World.

Park'nwithjackandkiefer: Hiking to the top of the World.

Hiking to the top of the World.

The "top of the world" can be a mountain top, a sand dune peak and even the peak of a mantra. It is a place you can release your inner barricades and let all your senses perform at their max. Enjoy life and commune with nature.

The Rubys and great friendship...

We spent 5 days in The Rubys with great friends Duane and Delynn Jones owners of Cedar Creek Clothing in Elko, NV. What a great journey...The Rubys are known for their garrnets (rubys) in the rivers and imbedded in the rocks thus the name Ruby Mountains. Thanks go Duane and Delynn for their love and passion for the Rubys.

Park'nwithjackandkiefer: A little break...

Park'nwithjackandkiefer: A little break...

A little break...

Every once on a while one must break from "blogging with a purpose" and share personal expressions. We went to enjoy Bela Fleck and the Flecktones along with Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers last night and truly experienced a miracle in music. It was truly an "out of mind experience".

Park'nwithjackandkiefer: Grand Canyon being attacked...

Park'nwithjackandkiefer: Grand Canyon being attacked...

Grand Canyon being attacked...

We can only take action if we are informed. It has been disclosed that there is a concerted effort by the mining industry to get protective legislation of the grand canyon amended to allow uranium mining in the confines of the park and thus expose the area including the Colorado River. Consider the irreparable damages this could create.
Don't let this happen...

Isle Royale National Park UP Michigan Lake Superior...

Isle Royale is one of those little known National Parks with fewer than 20,000 visitors per year.  The length of stay is 5 days which makes this the longest average stay per visitor.  It is the 3rd largest island in the contiguous US states (only Long Island and Padre Island are larger).  It is rugged in trail hiking, canoe/kayak ventures...This is just one snapshot of how diverse the national park system entails.

National Trails Day- June 4th...Saturday...Sponsored by National Parks...

This is every one's chance to "give back"...Volunteer at local parks, state parks, national parks, etc.  The infrastructure of the parks across this country...Over the past 10 years, the budget utilized to maintain trails throughout the park system has been decimated to the point of employees have been drastically reduced...
The volunteer support is a last hope to keep the infrastructure of the parks from crumbling to a level of no usage due to dangerous trails to hike.  Give Back Now...

Free access to all National Parks April 16th to April 24th...

In the continuing effort to get the American people to experience what is called our "national treasure" known as our National Parks, the National Park Service is offering free access to all the national parks and including national forests, national monuments, national historical parks, etc.  As most of the US is coming into some of the most beautiful time to visit these parks with wild flowers, wildlife, budding foliage and warmer temperatures.  It is the playground for American Families, young and old individuals to experience the America we all love and protect...Don't forget to consider volunteering on that venture...Every little bit helps.
Free access from April 16th to April 24th...

Mount Alban Historical Site Oaxaca

This past week Kiefer and I visited the city/state of Oaxaca, Mexico.  The experience was beyond our expectations.  We visited all the culture centers associated with the area and were surprised at the extent taken by the people of that region to preserve and protect their past and their culture.  It is the most important thing they have to connect them to their ancestry...
We visited a particular historical site called Mt. Alban just outside the city of Oaxaca.  My brother and his wife Steve and Karen were our guides and showed us the area and explained the true breadth of the Zapotec Culture.  Both Kiefer and I were truely respectful of the spiritual and history that existed in this historical area.  Woody decided he would pass on this venture being told of some of the traditions of the culture and how dogs are part of the food chain which we debunked during our stay.
We hope in our journey to theNational Parks here in the US we will experience the desire to protect and preserve our National History... See you out there soon...Jack, Kiefer and of course Woody...

National Park Service in a critical state and need volunteers...

Kiefer and I are about ready to further venture to "our" National Parks...Spring brings wild flowers, new growth of vegetation in conjunction the need for repair and cleanup of the parks resulting from the winter months.  Volunteering is a chance to give back to our country.  If you have the time, want a wonderful vacation in our National Parks and consider your services to these parks have a value (which they do), visit a park in your region of the country...Call ahead to the park service center and let them know your desire to volunteer...All ages can participate and it can become a wonderful family experience...
Thank You in advance for your service...Jack, Kiefer and of course Woody...

The urgency to keep the National Parks open...

This is an urgent message to at least be aware of the possibility (only, I hope) that congress will fall short of passing an interim extension of the 2011 Budget Bill and the interruption of the use of our public lands, primarily The National Parks and all the adjuncts thereof...This would be a tragedy for the workers in the parks, the visitors to the parks, the support communities around the parks and many more aspects of supporting these parks...
Please let your congress persons who represent you know your concern for the results of not passing an extension for this bill to be further discussed and a more comprehensive bill developed...
We have a personal stake in this situation and hope you see an urgency to act now...

Thank You for your support,
Jack, Kiefer and of course Woody...

The return of the famous blog we all love park'nwithjackandkiefer@blogger.com

Kiefer, Woody and I are stoked about getting out on the highways and byways of our country.  The hiatus over the winter holidays has energized us and with a new companion (travel trailer) we will be lingering a bit longer vonunteering in the National Parks...As a warmup, I went up to the Wasatch National Forest to bask in the "tons" of snow up there and snowshoe in a very secluded area...

See you out there,
