One of these parks is the Chaco Culture National Heritage Parks in Northweatern New Mexico. This is on our planning board to visit next spring.
Chacl Canyon inhabited by native cultures around 800 AD to 1400 AD. It was a very sophisticated in it's social structure which allowed this culture to exist for several hundred years and has roots that extend to inhabitants living in the area today.
1907 Chaco Canyon National Monument established to protect it from artifact hunters...
1980 Chaco Culture National Heritage Park established...
1987 World Heritage Site established-one of only 20 sites with this designation...
